Hubby and I were at Best Buy yesterday (he bought me awesome wireless headphones/mic for my gaming addiction), and we wandered over to the appliances…..😳😳 Ours are still working but we know, they are, like us, in their “Golden Years” and will require replacing, probably sooner than later.

W.T.A.F. Whirlpool, LG, Samsung, Frigidaire, Westinghouse, Miele??? It is absurd. I do not want an appliance that sings to me, adds one more screen to my life, talks and otherwise intrudes into my life. I want a fridge, a stove, a microwave that, QUIETLY, UNOBTRUSIVELY, does the job for which it was intended without a freaking monologue or play-by-play. I don’t want advertisements scrolling on a screen in my kitchen. I don’t want my washer and dryer to serenade me when they’ve done their job. Great – you washed/dried the clothes…what do you want? A cookie? Wait, let me program my oven to sing a song when it has done its job and baked said cookies.

I don’t want a washer that pre-determines how much water needs to go into the tub. I will determine that, if its all the same. Instead, I have to keep lifting the damn lid or add water with a bucket because there ISN’T ENOUGH DAMN WATER IN THERE, to wash or rinse my laundry.

When we sold our house? We had purchased a Samsung washer/dryer duo. When we sold our house, the duo was about a year old; we left them for the new owner. This duo was, without a doubt, the WORST appliances we had ever owned. It soured me on Samsung appliances forever. The clothes were never washed properly, the dryer sucked and that nifty “steam clean” option? Didn’t work. We bought a new set of Whirlpool, baseline units and even that washer doesn’t add the water I need for the laundry, but thankfully, neither appliance feels the need to sing me a song.

Forget the little ditty my microwave insists on singing at the end of the cooking cycle and KEEPS singing it until I open the door.

And those warranties? Don’t waste your time and money; they won’t be honoured. Kind of like the mattress warranties. Or car warranties. I will say that I never had a problem with HP and my various computers/laptops/printers – they were actually stellar at honouring them which is why they are my ride or die.

One of my sons has it right; he NEVER buys new – he patiently waits until and older, totally repairable model shows up on Marketplace, Kijiji or whatever, and buy them. He simply cleans them up and gives them renewed hope for another decade or decades of use.

I don’t want NEW AND UPDATED DESIGN, complete with advertisements; I want an appliance that does what I want without a running commentary or sing-a-long.
